Akoya pearls, grown from Pinctada fucata oysters, were first cultivated in Japan and have represented refined beauty since the 1920s and continue to enjoy steadily rising market value.
An exceptionally large 9.1mm+ genuine Japanese Koshimono Akoya pearl, beautifully set beneath a substantial AU750 18K white gold bail with a brilliant-cut CZ accent. The setting is solid and well made, with the AU750 hallmark discreetly positioned on the side close to the pearl.
The pearl itself is the true highlight. At over 9.1mm, it is an impressive size for Japanese Akoya and presents a visually perfectly round form with an exceptionally smooth, clean surface. Its natural body colour is a luminous, translucent white softened by the classic delicate blush-pink overtone characteristic of fine Akoya pearls.
Its lustre is particularly beautiful — bright, crisp and mirror-like at the surface, yet with remarkable depth beneath it. Light appears to penetrate the nacre and return as a soft inner glow, creating that distinctive combination of sharp reflection and luminous depth for which high-quality Koshimono Akoya pearls are prized. Subtle iridescent flashes appear across the surface as the pearl moves in the light.
